About Hope International Ministries

Under the direction of Rev. Kurt & Debi Holthus, Hope International Ministries has spent 3 years ministering to the people of the Dominican Republic. God has given them “uncommon favor” with the people of this nation including Presidente Leonel Fernandez. Hope International has donated over 3 million dollars of medicine and medical equipment. They have built playgrounds for the children in villages where they had never seen a swing-set before. Free Medical Clinics
and Surgeries were performed as thousands received the medical care they so desperately needed. Most important of all are the thousands who have found Jesus as their Savior as a result of this work. And this “uncommon favor” continues today as we plan for the construction of “THE CITY OF HOPE” in the Dominican Republic!
Where It All Began
In 1981 Rev. Kurt M. Holthus pioneered Metropolitan Tabernacle Assembly of God in Chesterfield, Michigan, along with 17 other people. He designed and engineered construction blueprints for the 13,000 square foot worship facility. After serving as Senior Pastor for 19 years and giving direction to a pastoral staff of 6 and 3 secretaries, he resigned from the church with an average attendance of 450. Rev. Holthus spearheaded the hurricane relief effort in the Metro Detroit Area in response to Hurricane Hugo’s effect on the East Coast. Five semi-truck loads of food, clothing, building and medical supplies valued at over $350,000.00 were collected and delivered to the people of Charleston, South Carolina.
He started a ministry of feeding the homeless and needy of the community, busing the hurting and less fortunate from the inner city to the church for a spiritual and physical meal. The need was so great that under his direction and with much prayer, the church bought and totally renovated an abandoned Big Boy Restaurant in the heart of downtown Mount Clemens. Over $400,000.00 in finances, labor and materials was raised to see this vision come to life. Every week, hundreds of people are fed an evening meal with a message of hope from the Word of God. Weekly, school children were taught how to use computers and children from the “hood” gathered for Saturday morning Sunday School. Support group meetings are conducted for those battling addictions and youth outreaches are held every Friday night. Countless ministries continue in an ongoing effort to reach the lost for Christ.
Rev. Holthus established a state licensed daycare and developmental pre-school with an average enrollment of 70 children and a staff of 14 teachers at Metropolitan Tabernacle. Many of the daycare families have come to the Lord through this ministry.Missions is the heartbeat of Rev. Kurt M. Holthus who has ministered extensively around the world. Having produced and directed local television programming in the Detroit market, Rev. Holthus traveled to Burkina Faso, West Central Africa where he assisted International Media Ministries in the production of adult and children’s television programming for French-speaking Africa in July of 1992. Rev. Holthus put his building and construction expertise to use in September of 1996, leading a building crew to the Ivory Coast of Africa to complete a new radio station in Abidjan while ministering in the area churches nightly. He also directed street evangelism teams and preached in the market places in Mexico.
Rev. Kurt Holthus has served extensively within the Assemblies of God, Michigan District as Secretary/Treasurer of the Metro Detroit Section from 1990-96 and as Presbyter from 1996-2001. He has served on the Boards of Central Bible College, Detroit; Arc Ministries; Michigan Hospice and S.T.R.A.I.G.H.T. Ministries.
Because of his passion to help the needy, preach the Gospel and stand up against evil, Rev. Holthus is highly respected among his peers. He has been recognized and honored by the City of Mount Clemens, Michigan; The Baptist Coalition of Macomb County, Michigan; The Michigan Senate and by the Honorable Governor John Engler, for his character, integrity and labor as he endeavored to assist the needy.Rev. Holthus has always been active and extremely committed to his local community. He drafted a new law on public nudity which was adopted in Chesterfield Township, and by the State of Michigan. He holds a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Central Bible College, Springfield, Missouri and has studied law. He has recently earned his private pilot’s license.
In June 2000, God directed Rev. Holthus and his wife, Debi, to found HOPE INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES. He resides in Fort Myers Florida with Debi, his wife of 28 years. His daughter, Amber resides in Cape Coral, Florida. His son, Jeremiah, has completed 2 years at North Central University, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
